PALAKKAD: ‘Dead slow,’ an exhibition on road accidents aimed at creating awareness of road safety, was inaugurated by district panchayat president Subida Isahaq at the Information Department Office Hall at the Collectorate here on Wednesday.

The five-day exhibition is organised with a view to creating awareness among people, particularly drivers, of the need to follow traffic rules and conduct timely rescue operations to save accident victims.

The exhibition has been organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations in association with G. Prajesh Sen, a journalist with a Malayalam daily. Fifty select pictures from different parts of the State are exhibited.

Mr. Sen said he had taken these pictures while working in different districts. As to what prompted him to take up the cause, Mr. Sen said he himself was a victim of major accident while working in Thiruvanathapuram. The physical and mental agony he endured prompted him to take up the cause for road safety.

He said nearly 30 exhibitions on a small scale had been organised in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode. But exhibitions with a large number of ‘accident photos’ will be held in association with National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (Natpac), the Police, Education Department, etc., he said.
